Student Profile: Charlotte Hawksworth

2016 Futures Award winners

Charlotte

Name: Charlotte Hawksworth

Course: BA (Hons) History

Why did you decide to take part in the Futures Award programme?

I took part in Futures as I thought it would be a good opportunity to get new skills and develop the skills I have now as well as meeting new people from different courses.

Has the Futures Award programme given you the confidence to try something that you may not have done before?

Yes, the Futures award gave me the confidence to go out there and do new things and volunteer. I got to volunteer at the Sainsburys school games in 2015 which was a great opportunity to meet athletes from around the UK.

Would you recommend the Futures Award to current students? If so, why?

Yes, as it’s a great opportunity to develop skills and meet new people that you wouldn’t get the opportunity to on your course. The certificate at the end is a great way to show these skills to employers now and in the future.

Has the Futures Award programme helped you to prepare for your future career? If so, how?

Definitely, as it has a range of skills and help available to develop skills that employers would like to see. The leadership event run by the Officer Training Corp was a great way to raise your confidence and meet new people as well as giving you the experience of teamwork and leadership. These are all things employers would want you to show during interviews.

Can you summarise Futures in one word or sentence?

A great way to make new friends, new experiences and prepare for the future.
